Do I need a Visa for the trip to Korea?
US citizens don’t need a tourist visa to visit Korea. If you have another citizenship instead of US, you might need one, so please let me know your nationality when you apply. I will help guide you on how to obtain the Korean travel visa then. However, anyone traveling to Korea will need to fill out the online visiting form known as K-ETA, and it will charge $10 for the application.
How do I purchase a flight ticket for the program, and what is the cost?
Once you are selected for the program, you will be informed of the contact information for the travel agent. The agent will coordinate the flight ticket, and you will need to pay using either your credit card, check, or cash. This information will be discussed during the interview process. Normally, the flight ticket starts from $1,800 for the direct flight, and it will become more expensive if you purchase it later. It can be as much as $2,600 if you buy it later for the same flight ticket. Based on previous experience, we will use Asiana or Korean Air for the direct flights, leaving on July 11, 2026. However, the returning date is a little flexible, you can stay in Korea up to a week after the program ends.
When is the program scheduled?
July 13, 2026 to August 3, 2026
Will the students be working together all through the trip?
This is a production course that will create a short documentary in Seoul over a three-week period. Our program will invite 6-9 Korean college media production students, and our students will collaborate with them to gain local access through the program. The program will divide into 3-4 groups of production teams, and they will work collectively as a production crew.
I am not a media production student. Can I still apply to this program?
Yes, this program is open to all college students, regardless of their majors. While it’s a media production class, extensive media production and pre-skills are not required. Students, even beginners, will learn how to shoot and edit video clips. Professor Cheong, an Apple certified video trainer and author, will guide students throughout the 3-week program, ensuring they acquire essential media production skills crucial in today’s dynamic job market.
If spots are filled up is there a way to negotiate for 1 more spot?
I would say “kind of yes.” There is always a high demand for the program, but I have taken a few more serious students who really wanted to join, even if they were unable to apply early due to financial issues. I completely understand the challenges that some students may face in applying early, and always encourage students to apply as early as possible to maximize their chances of being selected.
Lastly, for housing will be co ed or by gender? How many people will be in a dorm?
Two students will share a room, with individuals grouped by gender. Only members of the same gender can stay on each side of the dorm; it is not permitted for members of the opposite gender to stay in the other side. However, everyone can meet in the lobby. Dongguk University has great dormitory facilities, with each room equipped with two beds, two desks, and two closets. The room also has its own shower and toilet, with individual air conditioning installed, and WiFi.
Application Process FAQs
Everything you need to know about the Application Process. Can’t find an answer? Get in touch →

On the application there is a section that says “sponsoring organization” what would we fill in for that?
Brooklyn College
“Host Institution Abroad” what would we fill in for that?
Dongguk University
For the $300 deposit would I go in person to the Brooklyn bursar office to pay it? If so do I go pay first then fill out the application (1st photo)? Or is there a way I can pay Online?
You can pay the deposit when you visit us here. If you are unable to come to BC, you can use Venmo to send money to me, and one of my program assistants will take care of the process for you. One of the most important notes about these deposits is that the BC Study Abroad Office will consider your application active only after you pay this deposit. Without paying the deposit, your application remains in an inactive status, which means the SASK director will not review it.
The payment form requires your Empl ID and the last 4 digits of your SSN.

Would there be a interview process? Or is there a criteria for who is selected for the program?
There may be an interview process as part of the selection process. The interview could be conducted in person, over the phone, or via video conferencing. During the interview, candidates may be asked about their motivations for applying to this program in Korea, their academic and personal goals, and their qualifications and experiences. I encourage students to apply early to increase their chances of securing a spot in the program. Since there are limited spots available, applying early is a good idea for students who want to maximize their chances of being selected.
When applying, can we apply to both courses? Or is it 1 course and has 2 different names?
To complete the program, you need to register for the TREM 3461 Multimedia Production class. Please note that you can only take one class for the program. The second class is designed for returning students who have already completed the program and wish to take it again.
However, the registration will be done by the BC Study Abroad Office after you are selected to be part of the program. You don’t have to initiate the registration process yourself.
What are the “Miscellaneous Documents” on the application?
The “Miscellaneous Document” should not be labeled required and is only used if you have any other non-required documents you wish to send with the application. The application should let you through without putting anything in miscellaneous documents. However, if it doesn’t work please let us know, or contact the Study Abroad Office directly.
Where should I send the recommendation letter?
The recommendation letter can be submitted either to my email or to the study abroad office.
When is the application deadline?
The official deadline is March 15th. However, please be aware that should we reach our capacity with qualified applications before this date, we may have to close the application window early. It’s important to us to manage expectations transparently, as we want to avoid giving false hope to our prospective students.
We encourage you to submit your application even if you are still awaiting a recommendation letter. An application submitted without this document will still be considered active and in process, albeit incomplete. You can attach the faculty recommendation letter at a later time, even after your initial submission.
